Wojciech Korfanty becomes the patron of Katowice Airport
The airport is named after Wojciech Korfanty
On 24 June 2021 the ceremony of naming Katowice Airport after Wojciech Korfanty took place. A commemorative plaque dedicated to the patron of the airport was unveiled by President Andrzej Duda and Michael Korfanty, the great-grandson of Wojciech Korfanty.
At the ceremony present were, among others, Jakub Chłestowski - the marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Jarosław Wieczorek - voivode of the Silesian voivodeship, Wiktor Skworc - Metropolitan Archbishop of Katowice, Grzegorz Kaszak - the bishop of Sosnowiec, members of Parliament and Senate, councillors of the Silesian regional council and the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, the company managing Katowice Airport, with CEO Artur Tomasik.
Wojciech Korfanty was a distinguished statesman, one of the six fathers of the independence of Poland, reborn in 1918. Son of Silesian land, Polish patriotic activist and politician, leader of the victorious fight for the Polish identity of Silesia.
