Another increase in cargo transport at Katowice Airport
Nearly 30% more freight in the first half of 2026.
From January to June of this year, Katowice Airport's cargo terminal handled 28,356 tons of cargo. This represents an increase of 6,402 tons (+29%) compared to the same period last year. This is the best result for the first six months in the airport's history.
During this period, freighters performed 6% more takeoffs and landings at Katowice Airport than last year – 1,522 operations, compared to 1,432 the previous year. Katowice Airport is getting closer to achieving its goal of handling a record 50,000 tons of freight this year, and 100,000 tons by the end of the decade. Air cargo handling is one of the pillars of Katowice Airport's operations.
DHL Express, UPS, and FedEx all have bases at the cargo terminal in Pyrzowice. Lufthansa Cargo also operates a nationwide freight integration point here using the RFS model. Katowice Airport's cargo network also includes two all-cargo charter routes from China, averaging five flights per week.
Central Airlines operates a connection to Chengdu, and Suparna Airlines connects Nanjing with Katowice Airport. The connection to Chengdu is operated by a wide-body Boeing 777, and from Nanjing by a Boeing 747-400. Each flight carries approximately 100 tons of freight.
