2013-11-20DHL - new cargo route, larger aircraft

DHL Express, światowy lider na rynku międzynarodowych przesyłek ekspresowych, wprowadził większy samolot na trasie cargo Lipsk-Katowice-Kijów-Katowice-Lipsk.

DHL Express, the global market leader in international express freight, introduced a larger aircraft on the Leipzig-Katowice-Kiev-Katowice-Leipzig cargo route.

From 4 November, International airmail from customers in southern Poland is being transported by a Boeing 757-200F aircraft. This is a significant event for the domestic air cargo sector as it also celebrates the start of DHL connections to Kiev; until now, the flight was only operated on the Leipzig-Katowice-Leipzig route.

The Boeing 757- 200F in DHL Express livery is the largest aircraft of those serving this route up until now. It boasts a large cargo hold and can has a maximum gross payload of approximately 28 tons. For comparison, the aircraft used to operate on this route from Katowice Airport up to the end of October this year, could carry a maximum payload of up to 20 tons of cargo.

The new Boeing performs regular flights between   Europe's largest DHL transshipment centre in Leipzig, an air freight sorting gateway at Katowice Airport, and Kiev.

With this route now extended to include Kiev, Katowice Airport, has become a transit gateway. In terms of air transport of export goods it is the first point of entry into the European Union for goods from Ukraine.
