Katowice International Airport magazine

In the past year, cargo traffic at Katowice Airport has strengthened the airport's leading position amongst Poland's regional airports. 12 138 tonnes of freight was transported to and from the airport in Pyrzowice - 8% more than in 2010. Of this volume, 7 033 tonnes of cargo was exported and 5 104 was imported.
Fantastic results were recorded in December last year. In that month alone, 1 189 tonnes of freight was handled - almost 30% more than in December 2010.
In terms of handling long-haul cargo charters, Katowice Airport is the leader on the Polish market. In 2011, the airport handled cargo charter flights to: Johannesburg, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Moscow, Istanbul, Dallas and Chicago. In many cases these flights were operated by Boeing 747 aircraft (Jumbo Jets). No other airport in Poland handles commercial cargo charters as often as Katowice Airport.
In addition, Katowice Airport is the only airport in Poland to continue offering regular long-haul all-cargo connections to North America - to Hamilton, near Toronto (approx. 85km) in Canada. Flights take place once a week and are operated by a wide-bodied Boeing 767-200ER(F) aircraft belonging to Cargojet. The freight consolidator is LOT Polish Airlines Cargo and Mail Agents. So far, 4 500 tonnes of freight has been transported on this route.
