2008-04-01Welcome Germanwings

On Tuesday April 1st 2008, the low-cost airline Germanwings (IATA code: 4U) launched its services from Katowice International Airport. The airline will offer two connections - Stuttgart and Cologne/Bonn. Both connections will be offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays every week. During the holiday season from 14th July to 11th August, the number of flights will increase from 3 to 4 weekly with Mondays being added to the timetable for both connections. Germanwings also offers connections to Berlin-Shönefeld, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Zurich via Stuttgart or Cologne/Bonn, on the one ticket.

A press conference was held on the observation deck of Terminal B to celebrate the launch of Germanwings connections from Katowice. In attendance were Andreas Engel, the press spokesman for Germanwings, and Leszek Budka, the vice-president of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group.

Germanwings currently has a fleet of 27 made up of Airbus A 319 and Airbus A 320 aircraft. The airline's German bases are in Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin-Shönefeld and Dortmund. The airline has been the recipient of many awards of distinction offered by Airbus for the high reliability of its aircraft. The airline is also known for being one of the most punctual airlines in Europe. Currently, airlines operating flights to Germany, offer 69 flights every week to 7 different airports (Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Frankfurt/Hahn, Cologne/Bonn, Munich and Stuttgart).
