2005-03-10A press conference on the 10th of March 2005

A press conference on the 10th of March 2005 was devoted to the development plan of  Katowice International Airport.
Mr. Marek Mutke, President of Upper Silesian Aviation Group discussed the results of 2004 and forecasts.
622 000 passengers were serviced by Katowice International Airport in the year 2004 and  257 000 in the 2003 year. We become the third Polish airport after Warsaw and Krakow. Rapid growth of the passengers quantity is the result of the Open Sky policy and low cost carriers operations. There is also a constant growth of charters destinations.
The rapid growth will be continuing this year. We estimate that the level of 1 mln passengers will be achieved in 2005. The construction of a new passenger terminal is a must. Construction of a new terminal is needed requests not only due to the rapid growth but also by Schengen agreement which will come into force in Poland at the year 2007.
The investment cost will exceed 12,5 mln Euro and will be financed by government, EU funds, by credit and  our own money.
At present, terminal at Katowice International Airport is able to serve more that 1,6 mln passengers per year and 800 per hour. In next two years the capacity of passengers terminal will nearly double.  In the new terminal 3,6 mln passengers could be served yearly and 1600 per hour.

Katowice International Airport is still promoting two charter flights program :

• “Flying from Katowice” (Latam z Katowic)  is a programme promoting summer departures from Katowice International Airport. In the last year 140 000 passengers participated  in this programme. In 2005 we expect 200 000 of them. The promotion this year will cover also regular flights.

•  “Flying to Katowice” (Latam do Katowic)  is a programme which promotes arrival to Silesian Region by Katowice International Airport. The Board of GTL S.A. together with Marshal Office of Silesian Region will be offering to foreign travellers a package deal for less then 100 Euro (including visiting Jasna Góra Monastery , two nights at hotel, and transport from and to airport).

The record year of 2004 of Katowice International Airport gave also exceptional financial results - net profit exceeded 1 mln Euro comparing to 100.000 Euro in the previous year.
