2006-11-21The road to Katowice International Airport is now open

You can get to the Airport in Pyrzowice more quickly and more comfortably. This is all due to the newly built 9.5 km section of the S-1 dual carriageway from Pyrzowice to the junction of national road no. 1 in Podwarpie.

The Silesian Airport will be the best connected regional airport in the whole country once the nearby A-1 motorway is completed, said the Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek at the opening ceremony. Now the passenger terminal is extending, which is scheduled for completion in spring next year.

The dual carriageway to Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice is one of the most eagerly awaited connections in Upper Silesia. It cost more than PLN 220 million. Up to now you had to go through the narrow voivodeship roads to get to Pyrzowice.

After completion of the A-1 motorway, the route from Pyrzowice to Podwarpie open on 20 November this year, together with the GOP (Upper Silesian Industrial District) eastern ring-road, following the route of the S-1, will connect the A-1 with the A-4 motorway to Krakow and with DK-1 and S-1 routes for Cieszyn and the still under construction S-69, that will link Bielsko-Biała, Żywiec and Zwardoń.
