2012-02-01Statistics - January 2012

January saw regularly scheduled traffic at Katowice Airport grow by 2.2% (overall, 125 244 passengers), however interest in charter flights dropped by 15.6% in comparison to the corresponding time period last year. This is largely due to a decrease in numbers of people wanting to travel to Egypt. 16 418 charter passengers chose to travel from Katowice Airport in January. Overall, Katowice Airport handled 141 907 passengers which is 3.2% fewer than in January 2011.

Despite the minor fall in passenger volume in January, the Upper Silesian Aviation Group continues to maintain forecasts predicting 2.7 million passengers using Katowice Airport in 2012. 2011 saw over 2.5 million passengers handled at the airport.

This year the network of regularly scheduled and charter routes from Katowice Airport will continue to grow.

The spring/summer season will include 33 regularly scheduled routes (spring/summer 2011 - 27 routes) and 43 charter routes (spring/summer 2011 - 36 routes.

March 2012 will see a new airline operating from Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice. SAS will launch operations to Copenhagen. At the beginning of April, Wizz Air will inaugurate a connection to Stavanger in Norway. In addition, from mid-February, Sky Airlines is launching charter-mix connections from Katowice Airport to Antalya in Turkey. Flights will operate once a week, on Saturdays.
