2012-02-14New transatlantic all-cargo route

As part of its drive to expand LOT Polish Airlines' all-cargo routes, at the beginning of February, the Cargo and Mail Service launched an all-cargo route from Katowice to Chicago. As with the freight connection to Hamilton in Canada, flights to Chicago will be in conjunction with the Canadian carrier, Cargojet. This new route is a result of demand on the cargo market for freight transport to the USA from this part of Europe, as well as a seasonal (winter) decrease in passenger aircraft on the route. Chicago was chosen owing to the amount of freight transported on this route from Poland as well as the convenient transit of cargo to other cities in the USA and further on to South America. As with the route to Hamilton, LOT Polish Airlines is banking on the interest of freight and transport companies from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Switzerland. The carrier forecasts that this route will include the transport of machine and car parts, pharmaceuticals, electronics and food. Flights to Chicago will be operated once a week, on weekdays. The Hamilton route will continue to be operated on weekends. Both routes will be mainly operated by Boeing 767-200ER cargo aircraft.
