On 16 June 2021 Lufthansa handled the first regular flight between Katowice Airport and Frankfurt in over a year. The carrier's CRJ-900 aircraft took off from one of the biggest European airports at 13:00 and arrived in Katowice Airport after 14:00.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the German carrier suspended flights to Katowice Airport in March 2020. In order to celebrate Lufthansa's return to the airport after such a long period of absence, the first flight was greeted with a water salute.

According to the airline, flights to Munich will be resumed on 27 March 2022.
