2011-01-13Katowice Airport – the future at a glance

During a press conference today, Artur Tomasik, the President of the Management Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group which manages Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice, and Dr Michał Stangel from the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology, together unveiled and presented a model of the development of Katowice Airport up to 2032. The visualisation was prepared by a team of architects from the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology. The main aim was to create a four-dimensional model (including time) of the development of the grounds of Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice, the order in which the projects will be undertaken and how these will be coordinated in space and time. The study also shows the location of individual buildings and structures in relation to one another, the manner in which these constructions will function in terms of communication and the flow of passengers and cargo, as well as the railway link and approaches to passenger and cargo areas, and other functional areas such as retail and hotel areas. The outward appearance of individual buildings is only a proposal by the project's authors and the final architectural form, particularly of terminal C, will be decided by an architectural tendering process. More slides of the Katowice Airport visualisation are available in the gallery.
