2011-01-032010 - Summary

2010 at Katowice Airport finished with an overall growth in passengers in comparison to the previous year. Overall, 2 403 253 passengers used Katowice Airport, which is 38 640 more than in 2009. There were 26 770 aircraft movements - also up on the previous year. With 694 880 passengers in total, there was a boom in charter passengers in 2010 (15% up on charter passenger numbers in 2009). This result strengthened Katowice Airport's position as the Charter Centre for Southern Poland. Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia were the most popular destinations. In regularly scheduled services, on the other hand, the most popular routes were to Germany, Great Britain and Italy. In terms of significant events at Katowice Airport in 2010, it's impossible to overlook the efficiently continuing investment process in developing infrastructure (the tendering process has been opened for the contractor for the new aprons, and the architect has been chosen for the new runway) and large-size structures (November 2010 saw the start of renovations of the maintenance hangar and the tendering process was opened for the construction of a 6 400 m2 new maintenance hangar). 2010 saw the network from Katowice Airport grow. Wizz Air launched a new route to Madrid and in June, LOT Polish Airlines relaunched regular flights on the Katowice - Warsaw route. In the spring/summer timetable, these flights were offered 18 times a week, and in the autumn/winter timetable, 12 times a week. The past year also noted an increase in charter connections. New charter destinations to the Canary Islands, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey were added as well as long-haul flights to Kenya and Tanzania.
