Freight transport is growing at Katowice Airport in Pyrzowice. In January 2011, 960 tons of cargo was transported through the airport, which is 22% more than in the corresponding time period last year. Currently, the airport in Katowice offers a network of six regular cargo routes. Five of these are courier connections (TNT to Liege, UPS to Cologne/Bonn, DHL to Leipzig, FedEx to Paris/Frankfurt and Poczta Polska to Warsaw) as well as one all-cargo regular transatlantic connection - the first in the history of Polish aviation. Flights on the Hamilton-Pyrzowice-Hamilton route are operated every weekend by a Boeing 767-200 ER Freighter which is able to carry up to 45 tons of cargo. In addition, Katowice Airport operates various chartered cargo flights throughout the year. For example, 2 February saw an IL 96-400T belonging to Russian air carrier, Polet Flight, land at Katowice Airport for the first time in history. One day later, the machine took off with almost 90 tons of cargo to Moscow. Photos of the IL 960400T's visit to Katowice Airport are available in the gallery.
